About GearCheck
GearCheck is a set of free tests for the hardware you use every day: your microphone, webcam, speakers, keyboard, mouse, game controller and screen. Each test opens instantly in your browser, with nothing to download or install and no account.
Why we built it
Most hardware problems show up at the worst moment: a microphone nobody can hear at the start of a meeting, a controller that drifts mid-game, a key that stops registering, or a new monitor with a stuck pixel you only notice after the return window closes. A quick test tells you in seconds whether the device itself is at fault or whether the problem is a setting, a driver or a single app — and each page explains what to try next.
Private by design
Every test runs entirely on your device. Camera video, microphone audio and test recordings are processed in your browser and are never uploaded — we have no server that could receive them. Your browser asks for permission before any page can use your camera or microphone, and access stops as soon as you press Stop or close the tab.
How we keep it free
GearCheck is supported by advertising. Ads are kept clearly separate from the tests and never have access to your camera or microphone. See our Privacy Policy for details on how advertising cookies work.
